Using a friend to DJ your Connecticut wedding reception?

joe No Comments

Are you planning on using a friend to DJ your wedding reception?… Are you sure you want to do that?

Having an inexperienced friend to DJ your wedding is not only a great way to lose a friend, it’s much like hiring a blind limousine driver to bring you to your reception.  It’s a one way ticket to disaster.

With the economy in the condition it’s in today we see more and more brides cutting back on their budget by using a friend to DJ their wedding.  Statistically speaking, 70% of post reception brides would have increased their DJ budget by 50% or more!

At J&S Entertainment Co.  Our wedding DJ experience is second to none in the state.  We have been the premiere source for CT wedding DJs since 1988.  We are not the lowest priced but far from the highest.

Your CT wedding DJ has the power to make your reception an unforgettable event for the rest of your life.  With over 100,000 titles of music ready for instant play, on-site backup equipment, top of the line commercial gear and years of Connecticut wedding DJ experience, why would you trust the most important part of your wedding reception to a “friend.”

But don’t just take it from us.  Let’s hear what some other CT wedding professionals have to say.

When asked:  “What would you say to a bride if she is thinking about using a friend to DJ her wedding?”  Christine Hussey, Director of Sales at The Inn at Longshore said this:

“My professional advice is not to hire friends as vendors. I have seen too many lost friendships follow after the wedding. Hiring a wedding professional is always the route to go, they have the experience and knowledge to ensure that the day unfolds the exact way it is supposed to. Having people work weddings that have no experience tends to stress out the other vendors because they have to “cover” for the person who is not the professional. Experience with scenarios lends itself to anticipating an unknown on the day of and professionals are able to deal with this quickly and efficiently.”

And Erin Calvimontes, Owner at Divine Celebrations Event Planners said:

“As a professional planner, I have had this scenario come up many times before and my first question always would be; “is your friend a professional wedding DJ?” and depending on the answer, if she actually knows, I would educate her on the important of having a professional wedding DJ.  Things can go from good to, bad to, worse, in a matter of minutes with a non-professional DJ who is not trained to “read the crowd”, react to the mood of the guests, switch up music to keep the mood lively, and actually keep the FLOW of the event running smoothly.

Educate her on the fact that a professional DJ is not just an “autopilot” IPOD with a microphone but, an entertainer with years of experience running events, a large library of music to fit everyone through all generations, and comes with a great personality at no additional cost!! LOL

You do get what you pay for!
Good luck!!”

As is the case for most of the Connecticut shoreline, CT DJ, J&S Entertainment is also without power. Thankfully all of our CT weddings went off without a hitch last weekend and we expect they will this weekend too! It appears as if the venues hosting all of the CT wedding DJ bookings for this coming weekend are fully functional and we have a generator at our office. Our internet is down so email communication is difficult so be sure to follow up with a call. Our number is 203-676-6683. We are still keeping all appointments this week with our clients and prospects and we are fully ready for the wedding bookings this weekend. Irene can’t keep us down! Hopefully tripical strom Katia won’t follow the same track and give us a double whammy!

Wedding DJ or Wedding Entertainment?

Many times I’ve thought about whether I should call my profession a “Wedding DJ” or “Wedding Entertainment.” In recent years, the craze seems to be that we call ourselves “Wedding Entertainers” and that’s fine I suppose. For me that term immediate conjures up an image of someone cheesy showing up to DJ your Connecticut wedding, someone with hats, props, bad jokes, and self-absorbed stories. But, for the purposes of SEO I’ll include the entertainment phrase in my website. I mean, I do after all entertain guests at weddings. I DJ, I MC, I help plan, coordinate & direct the big day. I keep guests informed about what’s going on throughout the night. So yeah, I suppose that entertains people. But cheese has NO place in what I do for my profession. I DJ weddings in some of the best venues in the state. The Madison Beach Hotel in Madison, Woodwinds in Branford, Anthony’s Ocean View and Union League in New Haven, Aqua Turf in Southington, The Society Room in Hartford, Saybrook Point Inn in Old Saybrook and many other great venues all across CT. I help brides and grooms create a night that will be remembered forever.

It’s just that I think most people go to google and type “Connecticut wedding dj”…

…yep

CT DJ J&S Entertainment Co

J&S Entertainment Co.  We are Connecticut wedding DJ professionals

Our CT DJs have seen a growing trend with brides and grooms with respect to the planning their wedding reception and the activities during the course of the day.  More and more our DJs report that while planning the wedding “traditions” that they would like to eliminate most of the “traditions” and be non-traditional.  This in turn is becoming the new tradition.  But don’t think of it that way.  The simple fact is that more often than not couples desire a low-key approach to many of the festivities that some people assume need to be overdone.  They don’t!  I low-key approach to how your wedding DJ handles your reception is not out of the ordinary.

What we’re talking about here is the parent dances, how the cake cutting is handled, the boquet and/or garter toss, etc.  Our CT DJs would like to remind you that there are no set rules.  While planning your wedding, you are the boss!  Our DJs won’t push you to do anything you don’t want to.

During the planning stages of your CT wedding reception, discuss your likes and dislikes with your DJ.  We’ll listen and we won’t “overcook” your CT wedding reception. 🙂  It’s your day to remember forever and we’ll help you make it perfect!
