Wedding DJ at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT

Amy and Christopher’s intimate wedding reception for about 80 guests took place in the rustic and intimate “Makeshift Theater” at the Hill-Stead Museum this past Saturday. The bride and the wedding designer chose our uplighting package using a warm candlelight color and requested that we don’t set up any scrims or facade as to not distract from the rustic room decor. Of course we were happy to oblige and set up a very nondescript CT wedding DJ system and 25 uplight fixtures strategically placed around the room. J&S Entertainment also provided the wedding DJ ceremony system with music and microphones. For the wedding ceremony in the “Sunken Garden” we set up a very compact P/A system with lapel microphones clipped to the officiant and the groom so that the entire service and vows were clearly heard by all of the guests. We orchestrated the flow of the wedding party and played the prelude, processional and recessional music as well. Following the ceremony, we provided the cocktail hour music through our main DJ system transmitting the music wirelessly to a set of speakers in another area of the mansion. The dancing crowd was great and everyone had a blast! We thank Amy and Christopher for choosing J&S and we wish them the very best in the future.

Using a friend to DJ your Connecticut wedding reception?

Are you planning on using a friend to DJ your wedding reception?… Are you sure you want to do that?

Having an inexperienced friend to DJ your wedding is not only a great way to lose a friend, it’s much like hiring a blind limousine driver to bring you to your reception.  It’s a one way ticket to disaster.

With the economy in the condition it’s in today we see more and more brides cutting back on their budget by using a friend to DJ their wedding.  Statistically speaking, 70% of post reception brides would have increased their DJ budget by 50% or more!

At J&S Entertainment Co.  Our wedding DJ experience is second to none in the state.  We have been the premiere source for CT wedding DJs since 1988.  We are not the lowest priced but far from the highest.

Your CT wedding DJ has the power to make your reception an unforgettable event for the rest of your life.  With over 100,000 titles of music ready for instant play, on-site backup equipment, top of the line commercial gear and years of Connecticut wedding DJ experience, why would you trust the most important part of your wedding reception to a “friend.”

But don’t just take it from us.  Let’s hear what some other CT wedding professionals have to say.

When asked:  “What would you say to a bride if she is thinking about using a friend to DJ her wedding?”  Christine Hussey, Director of Sales at The Inn at Longshore said this:

“My professional advice is not to hire friends as vendors. I have seen too many lost friendships follow after the wedding. Hiring a wedding professional is always the route to go, they have the experience and knowledge to ensure that the day unfolds the exact way it is supposed to. Having people work weddings that have no experience tends to stress out the other vendors because they have to “cover” for the person who is not the professional. Experience with scenarios lends itself to anticipating an unknown on the day of and professionals are able to deal with this quickly and efficiently.”

And Erin Calvimontes, Owner at Divine Celebrations Event Planners said:

“As a professional planner, I have had this scenario come up many times before and my first question always would be; “is your friend a professional wedding DJ?” and depending on the answer, if she actually knows, I would educate her on the important of having a professional wedding DJ.  Things can go from good to, bad to, worse, in a matter of minutes with a non-professional DJ who is not trained to “read the crowd”, react to the mood of the guests, switch up music to keep the mood lively, and actually keep the FLOW of the event running smoothly.

Educate her on the fact that a professional DJ is not just an “autopilot” IPOD with a microphone but, an entertainer with years of experience running events, a large library of music to fit everyone through all generations, and comes with a great personality at no additional cost!! LOL

You do get what you pay for!
Good luck!!”
